His path to the limelight began when he debuted as a model in the 2015 F/W Men's Fashion Show. He then co-hosted the variety show Mr.CHU which lasted for three seasons (2015-2017). But it was his cameo in the Baeksang Best Drama from tvN Dear My Friends (2016) that marked his foray into acting.

He continued taking on small roles in many popular series such as Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-joo (2016), Moon Lovers: Scarlet Hearty Ryeo (2016), and Search: WWW (2019) and in the blockbuster films Midnight Runners (2017) and Ashfall (2019). It took years before he landed his first lead role alongside Kim Min-jae and Park Ji-hoon in the JTBC rom-com historical series Flower Crew: Joseon Marriage Agency (2019) as matchmaker Do-joon, captivating viewers with his charisma.

As if predicting his rise to fame in real life, he starred opposite Park Bo-gum and Park So-dam as a model-turned-actor in the romantic tvN/Netflix series Record of Youth (2020). In 2021’s Moonshine, he brought about not only second-lead syndrome but also swoon-worthy bromance with a straitlaced inspector (Yoo Seung-ho). As an alcohol-loving Joseon Crown Prince during the prohibition era, he gets his love lines entangled with a brewer (Lee Hye-ri) and a noblewoman (Kang Mi-na).

Unsurprisingly, his talent did not go unnoticed. No longer the second lead, he played Kim Yoo-jung's love interest in the Netflix coming-of-age dramatic movie 20th Century Girl (2022), earning him not only worldwide acclaim but also Baeksang and Buil Best New Actor nominations. This was followed by another lead role in the coming-of-age Prime Video film Soulmate (2023) opposite Kim Da-mi and Jeon So-nee.

Most recently, he portrayed a villain in the Netflix/JTBC superhero k-drama Strong Girl Nam-soon (2023) and played a romantic lead opposite Kim Hye-yoon in the tvN romantic time-travel series Lovely Runner (2024).

He has garnered not only praise but also respect for diversifying his roles and further improving his performance while he continues to tread his own path to stardom.
