Chae Soo-bin (채수빈)

Chae Soo-bin’s path to acting may have started out because a casting director saw her one day while she was on her way home during high school, but it was talent that led her to stardom.

The wide-eyed, bright-faced actress said her parents initially scoffed at the idea of her becoming an actress. “You? Acting? There are so many pretty girls out there”, they said. But they changed their minds after they saw her acting in a play.

That same talent won her best new actress awards for her first leading role in the 2015 weekend drama House of Bluebird, and excellent actress awards for her roles in The Rebel (2017) and Where Stars Land (2018).

Talent, however, can only take you so far. So it’s a good thing Chae Soo-bin is also determined. “I’m very ambitious,” she said in a 2017 interview when talking about how she finished six productions in her first three years of acting — including two of the ones that made her a star, Love in the Moonlight (2016) and Strongest Deliveryman (2017).

She followed these with the rom-com I Am Not a Robot (2017-18) and the melodrama A Piece of Your Mind (2020).

Chae Soo-bin then did back-to-back films: the Netflix rom-com Sweet & Sour (2021) and the historical swashbuckling comedy adventure film The Pirates: The Last Royal Treasure which broke box office records in 2022.

2022 was a busy year as she played a police academy student in the Disney+ series Rookie Cops and a public relations manager in The Fabulous. She also appeared alongside her fellow Love in the Moonlight castmates as well as the casts of Itaewon Class and Sound of Magic in the variety program Young Actors' Retreat.

She will star in the movie Omniscient Reader alongside Lee Min-ho, Ahn Hyo-seop, Nana, and Kim Ji-soo of the k-pop group Blackpink.
