A native of Busan, Kim Hye-eun attended Seoul National University before beginning her career as a news announcer and weather caster for MBC in 1997. In 2007, she decided to seriously pursue acting. She was cast in mostly nameless roles before her big break in the highly-acclaimed ‘80s Busan mob flick Nameless Gangster: Rules of the Time (2017) headlined by Choi Min-sik. Her performance as nightclub owner Miss Yeo earned her Best New Actress nominations from the Baeksang Arts Awards and Buil Film Awards.
Since then, Kim has worked steadily in both cinema and television, taking as many as six projects in a single year (in 2018 alone, she was in Radio Romance, Are You Human?, Mr. Sunshine, The Guest, Clean with Passion, and Encounter.
While her elegant looks and graceful bearing are well-suited to playing wealthy women such as her characters in Itaewon Class (2020), Graceful Friends (2020), and The Road: Tragedy of One, she is equally at home playing tracksuit-wearing characters with heavy regional dialects like Coach Yang in the youth drama Twenty Five, Twenty One (2022).
Kim Hye-eun is set to appear in the time-travel romance drama Run Into You, coming to KBS2 in May 2023.
