Yeon Woo-jin (연우진)

It’s hard to imagine how actor Yeon Woo-jin, who is famous for starring in k-drama romances, could have been considered unpopular in high school. He once candidly shared how he overheard several girls in his cram school call him short and unattractive.

Obviously that was before his growth spurt because no one would dare call the six-foot tall actor short these days. And as for being unattractive? Well, debuting as a model in Seoul fashion week in 2007 and becoming a leading man in several successful romcoms should be enough to shut down any of those comments.

But it isn’t just his looks that Yeon Woo-jin has going for him. Anyone who’s seen his films and dramas will know he can be endearingly charming despite having to play initially unloveable roles like in the commitment averse plastic surgeon in Marriage, Not Dating (2014), the petty lawyer in Divorce Lawyer in Love (2015), and the reclusive CEO in Introverted Boss (2017).

Since his breakout role as the villain in Arang and the Magistrate (2012), he’s been actively engaged in both dramas and film.

In Queen for Seven Days (2017), he played opposite Park Min-young in the tragic sageuk drama. And in Thirty-Nine (2022), he played Son Ye-jin’s love interest. He’s also starred in several movies Seondal: The Man Who Sells the River (2016), The Princess and the Matchmaker (2018), Shades of the Heart (2019), Special Cargo (2022) and Serve the People (2022).

In a recent interview, he was teased for being a “kiss expert.” Yeon brushed it off by saying that’s just because he’d been in several romance dramas and then proceeds to completely disarm his audience by saying he had to practice with dolls as a rookie actor because he didn’t know what he was doing! Talk about preparation meeting opportunity!
